Versatile new cutting head and CNC simulator will be highlighted at EMO by NUM

cnc,cnc machines, cnc milling machines, cnc lathe, used cnc machines July 28th, 2009 by cnc machines cnc manufacturers Industries, cnc machine tools, cnc programming, cnc controller admin

The CNC controls vendor NUM will launch a ready-integrated tool head for sophisticated plasma, laser and waterjet cutting machinery applications, and exhibit an advanced 3D simulation package combining workpiece simulation with collision monitoring for the first time.

The new head design brings many technical advantages to the cutting machinery sector. Novel mechanical design means that the head provides the versatility of movement and stiffness required to implement precision cutting motion, but with the unique advantages of very low mass, and the elimination of cabling runs that must flex with the tool head movement and can cause failures. Due to its unusually light weight, the new head can be assembled easily on existing CNC machines in the plasma- and waterjet-cutting market often without additional mechanical adaptation - providing a very simple means of extending the capability of machinery from 2D to 3D applications, with precise multi-axis interpolation.

NUM will also publicly exhibit a new 3D simulation package for the first time. It combines workpiece simulation with collision monitoring and other powerful features. The computer-aided engineering software allows machine builders to offer new generations of optimisation tools with their machines - to help users to maximise manufacturing throughput and productivity. Designated True 3D, the software tool is a general-purpose version of NUM’s well-known 3D simulator for multi-axis grinding applications.

NUM’s True 3D is one of the first commercial CNC software simulation tools to combine both workpiece simulation and collision monitoring facilities. Also worth mentioning is the fact that the new software is not only emulating, but is simulating the actual CNC commands, hence the name True 3D, and subsequently provides an output as close as possible to the actual machined parts. It allows machinery users to virtually prototype and optimise the entire machine production process, to yield significant gains including improved machine productivity, reduced tool wear, and faster project completion.

Torchmate introduces Routermate CNC router

cnc,cnc machines, cnc milling machines, cnc lathe, used cnc machines July 21st, 2009 by cnc machines cnc manufacturers Industries, cnc machine tools, cnc programming, cnc controller admin

Torchmate has unveiled the Routermate CNC router system, available in sizes from a 2ft x 4ft cutting surface to a 10ft x 40ft cutting surface.

Torchmate’s research and development team examined the pre-existing design and fabrication of the CNC router pinpointing vulnerable construction points and correcting them in their structural plan.

To maintain rigidity, the Z-axis bearings are located at the bottom of the axis plate, and do not move away from the material as the Z-axis moves the travelling distance of 8.5in.

The standard version of the Routermate is equipped with stepper motors.

Servos are available as an option.

All drive systems are completely gear driven, with the exception of the Z-axis that is a recirculating ball-screw drive.

The Y and Z axes have 24 bearings each for linear rigidity, and the X-axis runs on 16 cam follower type bearings.

These CNC router tables are available as a complete bolt-together kit, or fully assembled Y and Z axes can be purchased separately as the consumer builds their own table.

X-axis rails can be purchased separately for easy mounting of the gantry to the table.

The Routermate gantry comes from the factory fully assembled.

The Routermate’s table is adjustable in height from 6in to 34in.

In addition to this vertical adjustment, each of the table cross slat brackets is adjustable to the left and right, allowing side clamping of larger parts.

The cross slats can also be mounted vertically by adjusting the end brackets.

This can be used to reduce deflection when used with heavier materials.

The table has additional independent vertical stops to allow just one person to change the height quickly and securely.

All the surfaces of the cross brackets are T-slotted for clamping work on any surface.

The Routermate’s Z-axis can accept various attachments with four mounting holes on a 0.75in-thick retractable main plate.

Routermate accessories and software provide a way of minimising debris and dust, producing superior surface finishes, and achieving accurate cuts, said Torchmate.

The dust collection option includes ducting and a vinyl skirt for containing fragments.

The spray mist coolant system is useful when cutting material that heats up and can benefit from lubrication using a vegetable-based water-soluble oil.

Other attachments include a drilling and tapping system, and the ability to add a plasma cutter to the Routermate.

Several software options are available for the Routermate.

Routermate driver software is capable of starting and stopping the router motor, coolant and dust collection systems for a fully automated process.

Soon after executing a prestigious export order of a twin spindle deep hole BTA drilling machine, Precihole has finalised an order for a CNC single spindle trepanning machine from an oilfield equipment manufacturing company in Austria.

The role of the machine is to machine the core out, from the end-piece and transfer it onto the Inspection Line.

As per the sound norms, the working decibel level of te machine should be less than 80dB.

Using a special coating on the machine floor, the machine is to be made 100% leakproof.

It is extremelly difficult considering the operating pressure of 90 bar and operating coolant flow of 250 litre/min.

Due to the versatility of components, CNC is to toggle between programs to suit the material location in 2 axis and vary the cutting parameters.

It sounds like a cakewalk, said the company, but it will be interesting to see the actual performance of this machine.

NCMT awarded CNC machining distributorship

cnc,cnc machines, cnc milling machines, cnc lathe, used cnc machines July 7th, 2009 by cnc machines cnc manufacturers Industries, cnc machine tools, cnc programming, cnc controller admin

NCMT awarded CNC machining distributorship

NCMT has been awarded an exclusive UK distributorship for CNC machining diagnostic products.

The Surrey-based firm won the contract for Manufacturing Laboratories’ MetalMAX and Harmonizer offerings, which analyse machine vibration on the shop floor.

By identifying the spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut that will maximise metal removal rate and maintain accuracy and surface finish, the products increase productivity and reduce tooling costs for CNC machining centres.

Through avoiding vibration and chatter through selecting each machining parameter, combinations of machine structure, spindle, toolholder and cutter do not resonate at natural harmonic frequencies.

NCMT has already been using Manufacturing Laboratories’ tap testing equipment in the development of CNC machining techniques on titanium and other superalloys.

Taking just a few minutes, a tap test involves striking the tool with a hammer and detecting its frequency profile.

This can be done on any CNC machining element, static or moving, and gives the resonant frequencies that should be avoided.
